Matthew Bellows Stars in Sci-Fi Series ‘EXTINCT’; Resurges Top 10 Prime Video Hit Years After Debut

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, September 24, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Nearly nine years after actor Matthew Bellows first took on humankind as the fierce warrior Jax in the sci-fi series Extinct, the post-apocalyptic drama has found new life with viewers, recently climbing into the Top 10 television shows on Prime Video.

Originally premiering on BYUtv in 2017, the 10-episode series was created by acclaimed sci-fi writer Orson Scott Card (Ender’s Game) and New York Times bestselling author Aaron Johnston. Now streaming on Prime Video, Extinct has resurfaced among the platform’s most-watched television titles, nearly a decade after its original run. Recent reports placed the series as high as No. 5 on the platform in August.

Set 400 years after the extinction of the human race, Extinct follows a small group of humans revived by an alien civilization and returned to a vastly changed Earth. Led by Ezra (Chad Michael Collins), the Reborn humans must confront new dangers, hidden agendas and powerful secrets as they attempt to rebuild civilization. Bellows stars as Jax, Ezra’s archenemy and a fierce warrior infected with an alien Skin Rider parasite who leads the charge against the Reborn humans. As leader of the Skin Riders, Jax emerges as a central threat facing the group as they struggle to survive in their new world.

The action-packed series also stars Victoria Atkin, Yorke Fryer, Jaclyn Hales and Jack DePew alongside Bellows and Collins. The recent streaming resurgence was unexpected by everyone involved including Bellows, who adds “I’m thrilled that the show is finally getting the audience it deserves. He also emerged in memorable guest starring roles on NCIS (CBS), The Mandalorian (Disney+), Brooklyn 99 (NBC), FBI International (CBS), The Gray Man (Netflix), MacGyver (CBS), The Inspectors (CBS), and Ted (Peacock) among others.

Prior to this, Bellows gained tons of fans for his notable appearances on I’m Dying Up Here (Showtime), Room 104 (HBO), Teachers (TV Land), Nashville (ABC), Grimm (NBC), Colony (USA) and Fuller House (Netflix) among others.

Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Bellows holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Acting from the prestigious Old Globe/University of San Diego Graduate acting program.
