Most people do not choose a crystal from a mineral chart. They start with something personal: the month they were born, their star sign, or something they want to focus on. The free crystal library from Bliss Crystals, a retailer in Temecula, California, is built around those three starting points, and it covers 333 stones.
Start with a birth month
The birthstone chart begins with the modern list most jewelers use, first set by the American jewelry trade in 1912. It has changed a few times since: tanzanite joined December in 2002, and spinel joined August in 2016. Each month’s guide then adds the older traditions behind the stone and the color to look for. January is garnet, a deep red long associated with protection and devotion. February is amethyst, traditionally tied to calm and clarity. The Gemological Institute of America keeps a reference on birthstones by month: https://www.gia.edu/birthstones.
Start with a zodiac sign
Each of the 12 signs has its own page, gathering the stones crystal tradition has long tied to it. Across the library, 284 of the 333 stone pages list their traditional signs. Scorpio is paired with more stones than any other sign, at 126. Taurus has the fewest, at 43. Amethyst, for example, is listed for Aquarius and Pisces, among others.
Start with an intention
The library groups stones under 24 intentions, from love and protection to creativity, focus and new beginnings. In all, 324 of the 333 stone pages list their intentions. Protection appears on 128 pages, communication on 114 and peace on 109.
Labeled as tradition
Every crystal page also names the chakras that holistic tradition pairs with the stone. And every page closes with a note that these associations are what crystal traditions teach, and are not medical, mental health or financial advice.
“Shoppers usually ask two things about a stone: what it means, and how to use it,” said Jillian Lange, president of Bliss Crystals. “The library puts both answers on one page.”
The practical side
Once a stone is chosen, the page turns practical. Every page gives care guidance and the stone’s Mohs hardness, a quick guide to whether it suits daily wear. On 331 of the 333 pages, a section explains how to use the stone. Most pages add a buying guide, answers to common questions, and links to real stones and jewelry from the Bliss Crystals catalog.
